About Us
Founded on August 21, 2001, St. Ignatius High School began with a vision to provide quality education to students in the western region of Belize. As a coeducational, grant-aided institution, the school serves a diverse student population, including at-risk youth and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds. With a strong foundation in Christian and Catholic values, St. Ignatius has grown into a vibrant learning community that nurtures academic excellence, character development, and social responsibility.
Dearest Lord,
Teach me to be generous,
Teach me to serve You as You deserve,
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward,
Save that of knowing I do Your will.
Amen.
Our motto: “All for the Glory of God” reflects St. Ignatius’ good intentions. It
demonstrates that all people of goodwill can accomplish the tasks of a brave
and noble soldier of God. Whenever we look at our emblem we should be
inspired, like St. Ignatius, to imitate the virtues of our Lord and His Blessed
Mother.
St. Ignatius of Loyola, born in 1491 into a noble Spanish family, initially pursued a life of worldly pleasures and military glory. After being gravely injured in battle, his recovery led to a profound spiritual transformation. Inspired by the lives of saints, Ignatius renounced his former ways and devoted himself to God. He founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1539, emphasizing service, humility, and spiritual growth. St. Ignatius passed away in 1556 and was canonized in 1622, leaving a legacy of faith and devotion, celebrated each year on July 31st.
The emblem of our school symbolizes the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola. He was
a soldier who withdrew from the service to become a man of faith. St. Ignatius
laid his sword at the feet of Our Lady of Montserrat as a noble sign of
committing his life to the service of God. The pen in the right hand represents
his divine writing and quest to share knowledge.
St. Ignatius High School will positively impact the intellectual, spiritual, cultural and physical capacity of its students, enabling them to be an asset to the development of their communities.
By providing a sound Catholic faith-based education, St. Ignatius High School offers students the knowledge, skills and attitudes to make positive life choices, become self-disciplined, and contribute to meaningful change in their communities. We inspire all students to reach their full potential and to aspire to be lifelong learners.
St. Ignatius High School is a Catholic Institution that endeavors to foster in the student:
- The Intellectual, physical, spiritual and moral development.
- Christian/Catholic values and morals.
- Positive attitudes for responsible citizenship.
- Active interest in the civic, cultural, spiritual and moral welfare of the community.
The following has been adopted as our S.I.H.S. philosophy:
- Education is the collective responsibility of students, their families, school staff, and the school community.
- Each of us can create a readiness for growth in community through worship and prayer and model the values of Christian community
- A climate of trust and respect is essential for an effective learning environment.
- As a school community of diverse students, families and professional educators, we respect both our differences and similarities in areas such as race, ethnicity, culture, language, religion, ideology, life
choices, socio-economic status, physical and mental differences, gender, age and appearance. - High standards and expectations are set for all students, with provisions for their individual learning styles.
- Education includes a student’s intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical development.
- Learning opportunities must prepare students for successful participation in civic and family life, further education and satisfying work.
- We each assume personal responsibility for achieving our educational and professional goals.
