Dr. Christopher Malcolm’s visit to Belize from September 23 to 27, 2024, marked a pivotal step in enhancing the Street Law Belize curriculum. Engaging with key figures at Independence High School, Delille Academy, and St. Ignatius High School, including both day and evening divisions, Dr. Malcolm led collaborative discussions focused on improving legal education for students. His efforts with school administrators, education stakeholders, and Street Law instructors cultivated a spirit of partnership and innovation in legal literacy and pedagogy.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

The ongoing collaboration with Jeaneane Neal, principal of St. Ignatius High School, and Vice Principal Pauline Gilharry-Roberts, the coordinator of Street Law Belize, demonstrates a shared commitment to refining the curriculum.

This effort aims to benefit the partnership schools and future institutions interested in implementing the program.

Dr. Malcolm’s extensive experience as an attorney and senior lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, brings invaluable knowledge and practical insights into the curriculum development process.

His contributions are expected to enhance both the academic framework and the program’s real-world relevance, empowering Belizean students with essential legal knowledge and skills.

As this initiative progresses, the combined efforts of Dr. Malcolm, Ms. Neal, Mrs. Gilharry-Roberts, and the dedicated educators involved promise to create a dynamic learning environment. Here, students will engage meaningfully with the law and better understand their rights and responsibilities within the legal system.

This collaboration sets a model for future educational programs in Belize, showcasing the power of partnerships in improving educational outcomes and fostering a well-informed citizenry.

The partnership between Street Law Belize—comprising IHS, DA, SIHS, and Street Law Caribbean—has been in place since 2018 and continues to shape the future of legal education in Belize.
