From November 6 to 8, 2024, St. Ignatius High School students embarked on a groundbreaking field trip to the Polytechnic University of Bacalar (UPB) in Quintana Roo, Mexico. This visit was a key highlight of our annual Engineering Week, made possible by the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UPB on October 25, 2024.
This innovative field trip was designed to immerse our students in STEM Studies and Welding & Non-Destructive Testing programs in engineering higher education. Students gained firsthand exposure to advanced engineering technologies and methodologies through interactive workshops, guided tours, and networking sessions.
What Students Experienced:
- Interactive Workshops: Students participated in workshops that spanned various engineering disciplines, offering them a practical understanding of complex engineering concepts.
- University Tours: Our students took tours of UPB’s facilities, which gave them insights into the university’s academic programs and cutting-edge research initiatives.
- Cultural Exchange: Engaging with current UPB students and faculty, our students discussed the vital role of engineering in solving global challenges and enhancing their understanding of the field’s impact.
- Professional Networking: The trip also served as an excellent opportunity for students to connect with engineering professionals and academics and receive valuable advice on educational and career pathways in engineering.
The trip enriched our students’ educational experience and broadened their perspectives on the possibilities within the engineering sector. Such experiences are crucial in shaping the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
We extend our gratitude to the faculty members of St. Ignatius High School who chaperoned and facilitated this enriching experience. Engagements like these are pivotal in our mission to prepare students for higher education and impactful careers that contribute to society.
